Florida Police Officer Praised for Comforting Injured Dog After Traffic Accident

A heartwarming moment between a Florida police officer and an injured dog has touched thousands online after a passerby captured it on camera.

The photo shows Officer Joshua Fiorelli of Kissimmee, Florida, sitting on the grass beside a dog injured in a traffic accident. While waiting for animal control staff to arrive, Fiorelli gently stroked the dog’s head to calm it and even draped his uniform jacket over its body to keep it warm.

The image was taken on the morning of December 16 by local resident Carlos Irizzy, who was walking his own dog along Royal Palm Drive when he noticed the compassionate scene. Irizzy shared the photo on social media, where it quickly gained attention and praise.

Fiorelli later explained that the weather had been cold and the dog was wet, alone, and likely frightened. “No one was with it, so I spent time with it,” he said. “I know many dogs are often afraid and more defensive when they’re injured. However, this little dog was not at all.”

The dog is now recovering at the Osceola County Animal Shelter, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office publicly commended Fiorelli’s act of kindness, calling it a reflection of his compassion both in and out of uniform.
