He was used as a bait dog then dumped in a ditch like garbage! Heartbreaking journey!
His name is Scooter. And his story is nothing short of heartbreaking β and miraculous.
Scooter was once used as a bait dog in illegal dogfighting. Tied by his back legs and hung from a tree, he became a target for other dogs learning to fight. He endured unimaginable pain, used and abused until he was no longer βuseful,β then thrown out like trash.
One day, lying in a ditch along a dirt road, Scooter was spotted by a kind stranger who refused to walk away. They stayed by his side until animal control arrived. Scooter was covered in puncture wounds, severely dehydrated, and had lost both of his ears. He was dying. He had given up on hope.
He was rushed to the emergency vet, where the team immediately began working to save his life. His wounds were cleaned and bandaged, and he was placed on IV fluids and antibiotics. For the first 48 hours, his bandages had to be changed every 12 hours, then daily. Despite everything he had endured, Scooter remained calm, gentle, and trusting.
By Day 2, he was doing as well as expected. The vet confirmed that although his ears were gone, his ear canals remained open β giving hope that he might retain his hearing. On Day 5, Scooter was still on fluids, and his bloodwork revealed elevated liver enzymes, which needed monitoring. But he was strong β and sweet. The vet staff had already fallen in love with him.
Day 18 marked a turning point. Scooter had endured weeks of daily bandage changes. Yet even after all he had suffered at the hands of both dogs and people, he showed nothing but love. He adored everyone he met, and other dogs too.
By Day 30, his wounds continued healing. The vets were amazed by his resilience and gentle spirit. On Day 35, a minor setback occurred when one bandage slipped and exposed part of his wound, but his recovery remained on track. Soon, he would be strong enough for his first heartworm treatment.
Day 50 brought joy β Scooter was playing all day with his doggy friend Patsy. And by Day 60, he was rolling around happily, enjoying life like any carefree pup.
Then came the happiest day of all β Day 65: Scooter was adopted into a loving forever home! His wounds had finally healed. His bandages were gone. He was gaining healthy weight, tugging on toys, zooming around with joy, and snuggling with his new βuncle.β
Scooterβs journey from pain and abandonment to love and healing is a powerful reminder of resilience, forgiveness, and the transformative power of kindness.
Despite all that happened to him, Scooter never stopped loving. He is truly one of a kind β and so deeply blessed to have been rescued and given a second chance at life. ππΎ
