The Last Kiss: A Bond Like No Other

I’ll never forget the day my mom called me in a panic, “Janna, you’ve got to convince your daddy to get rid of that horse, it’s gonna kill him!” 😔
Major, or as Mama lovingly called him, “Major Deal,” was a young and ferocious stallion when Dad first bought him. He was labeled “unbreakable.” The men who owned him before used unspeakable cruelty to break his spirit—beatings, and harsh, inhumane methods, like tying his head tightly between two posts and denying him food and water for weeks. Despite the trauma, Major stood strong. 💔
When Dad brought Major home, he was a force of nature, wild with rage and pain. In his first moments in the new place, he barreled through five strands of fence, biting and striking at anyone who came too close. Major was a horse full of anger, yet beneath all that, you could see he was hurting—hurting from the cruelty he’d endured.
But Dad wasn’t scared. He didn’t try to break him—he worked to earn his trust. Day after day, hour after hour, Dad patiently spent time with Major, understanding his fears, calming his anger, and never giving up. Slowly, love won. It took two years of hard work, patience, and respect before Major finally allowed my dad to ride him. But the real magic didn’t come from that moment—it came from what happened afterward. Every time Dad would enter the pasture, Major would walk up and kiss him on the head, over and over, showing affection in a way only the deepest of bonds can. 💋
They had a connection that only horse people can truly understand—a relationship built on patience, respect, and unconditional love. Major was no longer the wild, angry stallion who had been broken by cruelty. He was a horse who had been healed by love.
When it was time for Major to say goodbye, my dad didn’t rush him. He knew, just as Major knew, that the bond they shared was unbreakable. And so, it was only fitting to let Major say his last goodbye in his own way, with the same love and respect that had defined their relationship. This is Major’s last kiss. 💔🐴
