The film follows James Bond as he investigates the murder of a fellow agent who was found with a fake FabergΓ© egg. This leads him to an international smuggling ring run by the mysterious Octopussy (Maud Adams), a wealthy woman who operates a circus as a cover for her illegal activities. However, the real villain is Kamal Khan (Louis Jourdan), an exiled Afghan prince working with a rogue Soviet general, Orlov (Steven Berkoff), who plans to detonate a nuclear bomb on a U.S. airbase in West Germany.
Bond, using his usual mix of charm, wit, and daring stunts, infiltrates the operation, teams up with Octopussy, and stops the detonation just in time.
Bond eventually infiltrates Octopussyβs palace, a floating island run by the mysterious and powerful Octopussy (Maud Adams), a smuggler who also runs an all-female circus troupe. She is allied with Khan but has no idea of his bigger plan: to use her circus as a cover to smuggle a nuclear bomb into a U.S. Air Force base in West Germany. The idea is that if the bomb explodes, it will look like an accidental detonation, forcing NATO to withdraw from Europe, allowing a Soviet invasion.
