Firefighters Rescue Kitten During Encampment Blaze Response

On Thursday afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., local fire crews were dispatched to a blaze at a homeless encampment after a plume of smoke was reported rising from the area. Responding units quickly arrived on the scene, with Engine 6, Ladder 7, Squad 7, and Engine 21 working together to bring the situation under control.

Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the fire was contained within about 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading further and ensuring the safety of those nearby. But amid the response, a small and unexpected discovery touched everyone on scene.

While checking the area, Engine 21’s Elliott Brown came across a tiny kitten that had suffered minor burns. Though shaken, the kitten was still alive — and immediately received care and attention. Crews carefully secured the animal and transferred it to the McKamey Animal Center, where it is now being treated and looked after with compassion.

For the firefighters, their mission didn’t end with extinguishing the flames. Their quick action ensured that not only people, but also one vulnerable little life, was kept safe.

The incident is a reminder of the dedication shown by emergency crews — not only in protecting the community from danger, but also in showing care and humanity to every life they encounter. Thanks to their swift response, a frightening moment ended with a story of hope and rescue.
