A Mexican animal shelter was surprised to find a dog on their doorstep with a heartbreaking letter

It’s heartbreaking to see pets abused by their owners, and in this case, a young boy had to say goodbye to his beloved dog because his father wouldn’t stop beating him.

This viral incident broke the hearts of many when an animal shelter in Mexico shared the story on their Facebook page.

Apparently, the beautiful puppy had been beaten and kicked by the boy’s father, and the 12-year-old boy and his mother decided to send the dog away from his abusive father.

Both the mother and Andrés, his son, left the dog in a box at the shelter, with a letter inside.

According to Bored Panda, Andrés’s father not only abused the dog, but he also planned to sell it. This explains why the mother and son thought it best to send their dog to the shelter.

The letter included in the box was filled with sadness as Andres mentioned that the dog’s tail was injured.

“My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old. My mother and I decided to give him to you. We did this without my father’s knowledge because he was thinking of selling him. My father always hit and kicked the dog. One time he kicked him so hard that his little tail was injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. It’s a plush toy so he won’t forget me,” the letter read.

After taking the dog in, the shelter immediately checked the puppy’s health and discovered his tail was broken.

“We need to take the dog to the vet so he can check his tail, which appears to be broken. We also need to remove parasites and have him examined. This means more expense and work for us, but fortunately the dog will survive,” said a staff member at the shelter.

Xollin, the shelter involved in the case, decided to name the dog Rene and put him up for adoption.

Placing Rene up for adoption was not a difficult task as the shelter received over 300 messages from people wanting to adopt this cute pup.

Seeing how Rene’s adoption garnered such a huge response, Xollin reminded everyone to adopt other animals who didn’t make it to the viral news, and that every animal deserves a loving home.

We agree with this, and hopefully, more people will be able to give homeless animals a forever home.
