He spent his whole life in chains: now he knows what it means to be loved and to be free to move.

For many people, leaving a dog tied to a leash for long periods of time during the day is completely normal. However, in these conditions, the animal suffers terribly and cannot enjoy freedom and in some cases can also develop aggressive behavior. The fault for all this is certainly not mine, but rather the person who tied it a few meters away.
Violet is a pit bull who has most likely been chained all her life: when volunteers came to rescue her, they found a psychologically traumatized dog.
Violet was rescued along with 5 others from a property in New Mexico.
Here, keeping dogs tied to a leash during long periods of absence from the owner is illegal: according to studies conducted by the NMDOG association, Violet’s owner and others have been to prison.
Apparently, none of them cared for the animal, which was left behind.
Violet was 2 years old when she was found: she had most likely spent most of her life tied to a heavy chain several metres long. After the rescue operations, all were taken to the vet for examination.
Violet’s skin was sunburned: she was very weak. She also had an infection caused by a parasite that was literally eating her hair.
“I was very scared. If you made any sudden movements, she would curl up in fear of being hit. I can’t imagine what they did to her. However, she always showed good intentions, was positive and behaved brilliantly,” said Angela Stell, founder of the NMDOG association that rescued Violet.
Violet has gradually recovered: today she is a dog that can be said to be healthy, although she is still scared. “She is very sweet, she opens up to the clinic staff. She loves her stuffed animals; I once caught her playing with her toy raccoon while looking around to check if anyone was looking at her. She has discovered that the world is bigger than the one she can explore attached to the chain,” the volunteer added.
Finally, Violet can now live the life of a puppy: she plays carefree, surrounded by people who care for her a lot. “She is very playful, we are sure that she will know how to leave her terrible past behind,” they said of her in the clinic.
Violet still needs to be cared for and spayed, then she can be adopted.
“For her, she needs a family that will treat her like a housemate, maybe keep her indoors most of the time because her skin will be susceptible to the sun. She should be treated like a little princess,” Angela said.
We are sure Violet will find her home and she will remember the ugly watery moments of her past.”
