Rescuers Shocked by What They Found Stuck in Her Neck

It all began with a few blurry security camera images. The pictures were unclear, but they revealed a heartbreaking truth: a small dog with a face swollen beyond recognition, wandering alone in unbearable pain. Her sad eyes spoke louder than any bark. Her frail body was covered in wounds and reeking of infection—as if silently begging for help.
A contact sent these photos to an animal rescue team with a simple message: “She’s out there, all alone. Her face is badly swollen, and something’s tightly wrapped around her neck. Please, help her before it’s too late.” Looking closer, the rescuers saw a piece of cloth or a makeshift collar deeply embedded into the dog’s neck, causing the terrible injuries. Without hesitation, they rushed out to find her.
What they found was even worse than imagined. The little dog was dragging herself from house to house, as if silently pleading for someone to stop and listen. The stench of rotting flesh trailed behind her every step. One rescuer said, “With every step she took, the air was filled with the smell of decay.” She had likely been trapped in that cruel collar for months.
They named her Mika. And when they finally lifted her into their arms, they knew her painful past was beginning to fade. But Mika’s journey to healing had only just begun.
She was taken to VSC veterinary hospital—the place that handles the toughest cases. The condition was critical: the tight collar had caused such a severe infection and swelling that Mika’s head was nearly twice its normal size. The vets had to act immediately. Mika received fluids through an IV, strong antibiotics to fight infection, and pain medication to ease her suffering.
Surgery was necessary—but risky. Mika was too weak for full anesthesia. Yet, Dr. Miranda and Dr. Yao didn’t give up. They worked for six long hours, carefully removing the embedded material and cleaning out the infected tissue. The operation was delicate, but Mika showed incredible strength throughout.
After surgery, Mika was placed in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to speed up healing. For the first time in a long while, she rested peacefully. The rescuers whispered, “Look at this beautiful face,” as the swelling slowly went down.
Recovery wasn’t easy or quick. Mika had good days and bad days, but she never gave up. Gradually, she moved from IV meds to pills. Four days after surgery, Mika allowed someone to gently touch her without pulling away. She began to eat, wag her tail, and her spark returned.
“She’s a fighter,” the team said. “Mika is joyful, playful, and full of forgiveness.”
Then came the most amazing moment. The phone rang—it was Dr. Miranda. He and Dr. Yao, the very doctors who saved Mika’s life, said: “We want to adopt her. Forever.”
The room fell silent for a moment, then filled with tears of joy. The hands that saved Mika would now be the hands to hold her every day.
Mika finally had a real home. Over the following months, she blossomed—going to work with her new family, making new dog friends, and slowly getting used to a safe and loving life. Though still sometimes scared of loud noises or new places, Mika was learning to trust again.
Today, Mika is more than a rescued dog. She stands for hope, resilience, and the power of kindness. One photo, one choice, one brave surgery changed her life forever.
She gives love freely. She cuddles deeply. She has finally found her rhythm.
And for everyone who has followed Mika’s journey, one thing is clear:
Miracles happen—especially when people choose to care.
