Lily’s Journey: From Street Cat to Survivor Ready for a Forever Home

Lily — affectionately known as Kuih Koci — was never meant to be a headline story. She began as part of a simple TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) effort, a humane approach to caring for community cats. The plan was straightforward: bring her in, ensure she was healthy, spay her, and return her to the colony where a kind security guard was already keeping an eye on her.

But fate had a different path in store. Just days after her surgery, something wasn’t right. Lily stopped eating. Her breaths became shallow and heavy. She grew weak and tired, her spark fading far too quickly. Concerned, one of our team members rushed her back to the clinic — and that’s when her quiet story turned into a fight for her life.

The diagnosis was serious: Lily had pyothorax, a dangerous condition where infection builds up inside the chest cavity, pressing painfully against the lungs and making every breath a struggle. The vets acted fast, draining the infection to relieve her. But there was more — tests revealed pneumothorax as well, meaning air had leaked into the space between her lungs and chest wall, making breathing even harder.

It was a heavy battle for such a small cat, but Lily wasn’t ready to give up. And neither were we.

Day after day, she fought. With every treatment, every meal she managed to eat, and every soft blanket she curled up in, she grew a little stronger. Slowly but surely, Lily turned the corner. And now, against all odds, she has fully recovered.

Lily’s story doesn’t end on the streets. Her colony is no longer safe, and truthfully, she has discovered a life she was always meant to have — one filled with warmth, soft beds, gentle hands, and sunbeams streaming through the window. She’s officially retired from street life and ready for the next chapter: finding her forever home.

At about 2 years old, Lily is spayed, vaccinated, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She’s a true calico queen — affectionate, playful, and yes, with just the right bit of sass to keep life interesting. She would absolutely thrive as the solo star of her home, where she can bask in all the attention and love she deserves.

If you’re searching for a companion with resilience, charm, and a survivor’s heart, Lily is waiting. Her journey proves that even the toughest battles can lead to the brightest new beginnings. And for the right person, she’s ready to be more than just a cat — she’s ready to be family.
