Dog Who Saved Owner From Armed Robbery Can’t Believe He’s Being Called a Hero

Pitufo, a dog from an animal shelter in Argentina, defied all odds to find the perfect home a few weeks ago.

After more than a decade of waiting, the 14-year-old dog finally got his first taste of love, and his reaction melted hearts.

For Silvana, co-founder of Hogar Corazón Animal in Moreno, Buenos Aires, Pitufo’s recent adoption was nothing short of a miracle. When she first rescued the dog in 2012, there were a few obstacles standing between Pitufo and his forever home.

Pitufo was about 5 years old when he joined the Hogar Corazón team and was considered less attractive than a puppy. In addition to being an adult, the shelter didn’t have many opportunities to share his story.

“Because we are a small organization, we are not well-known and social media is not very popular,” Silvina shares. “We really have a hard time finding homes for our dogs.”

Even when potential adopters show interest, they often do not meet the shelter’s requirements. For Silvina, finding a truly loving home for her puppies is paramount, no matter how long it takes.

“I am very strict about the homes I adopt dogs from,” Silvina shares. “I treat them like my own children, and I will not entrust them to anyone. I always want the best for them.”

After 10 years of raising awareness about Pitufo and getting to know a handful of families who have asked about him, Silvina’s wish for the puppy has finally come true.

On August 9, 2023, Pitufo met the family of his dreams: a loving couple named Estefanía and Sebastian. In addition to a cozy home, Pitufo also gained two wonderful parents and a little cat sister.

And it was an easy transition for Pitufo, who quickly adjusted to his new parents and foster sister. Since then, he has spent his days walking, cuddling, and doing the same activities he did for the rest of his 14 years.

Silvina misses her adorable Pitufo around the shelter, but she is thrilled that the little dog has finally found his fairytale home. “It was the best decision,” Silvina says, “because Pitufo is so happy now.”
